الشمس: راقب ولا تفترض
لا تُقدَّر ساعات الشمس بالنظرة الواحدة. اختر يوماً وسجّل متى تصل الشمس المباشرة إلى الموقع ومتى تغادره. الفارق بين موقع يتلقى شمس الصباح وآخر يتلقى شمس ما بعد الظهر فارق كبير في الكويت، لأن حرارة ما بعد الظهر هي الأعلى.
الحرارة المنعكسة
الحرارة العظمى المسجّلة رسمياً في الصيف 45–46 درجة مئوية، وبلغت 51.3 درجة في مطار الكويت يوم 20 أغسطس 1998. هذه أرقام الهواء في الظل — أما النبات الملاصق لجدار أو رصيف أو سياج معدني فيتعرّض لحرارة منعكسة إضافية.
ملاحظة صريحة: لا نذكر هنا رقماً لمقدار هذه الزيادة، لأننا لم نقرأ مصدراً يقيسها في الكويت. لكنّ وجود الأثر مبدأ فيزيائي معروف، والتعامل معه يكون بالملاحظة لا بالرقم.
الحماية من الرياح
العواصف الرعدية الربيعية بمتوسط سرعة 65 كم/ساعة، ورياح السهيلي من 15 مارس إلى 10 أبريل، والرياح الشمالية الغربية الشتوية شديدة البرودة. الموقع المكشوف لكل الاتجاهات يحتاج نباتاً أقوى أو دعامة أطول.
الصرف: الاختبار الذي يستحق عشرين دقيقة
احفر حفرة، املأها بالماء، وراقب. إن بقي الماء راكداً طويلاً فالمشكلة في الصرف، وهي مشكلة تُحلّ قبل الزراعة لا بعدها. الماء الراكد لا يغسل الأملاح بل يخنق الجذور.

The same plant can thrive against a north wall and die against a south wall in one garden. Before choosing, read your site.
Sun: observe, don't assume
Hours of sun cannot be judged in a single glance. Pick a day and record when direct sun reaches the position and when it leaves. In Kuwait the difference between a morning-sun and an afternoon-sun position is substantial, because afternoon heat is the highest of the day.
Reflected heat
Officially recorded summer maxima are 45–46°C, reaching 51.3°C at Kuwait Airport on 20 August 1998. Those are shaded air figures — a plant set against a wall, paving or metal fencing faces additional reflected heat.
Stated plainly: we give no figure for how much that adds, because we have read no source measuring it in Kuwait. That the effect exists is established physics; managing it is a matter of observation, not of a number.
Wind shelter
Spring thunderstorms average 65 km/hour, Al-Suhily winds blow 15 March to 10 April, and the winter north-westerly is very cold. A position exposed on every side needs either a tougher plant or longer staking.
Drainage: the test worth twenty minutes
Dig a hole, fill it with water, and watch. If water stands for a long time the problem is drainage — and it is solved before planting, not after. Standing water does not leach salts; it suffocates roots.
