Pomegranate is deciduous, so unlike citrus and mango it does have a real reduced-growth period. Crop characteristics and soil
Pomegranate is deciduous and fruits on mature wood. Being deciduous, it has a genuine period of reduced growth when the leaves are shed — which is the one structural way it differs from the evergreen fruit trees in this hub, and it changes when the tree is and is not able to use what is applied.
Preferred soil: free-draining. Drainage is tested and resolved before planting.
The general fruit-tree nutrient picture applies: FAO names N, P, K, Zn, Mn and Fe as the balanced-fertilisation components for fruit trees on alkaline calcareous soils.

Kuwait considerations
Heat: summer maxima 42–46°C and 45–46°C. Do not feed a heat-stressed tree.
Winter: the Meteorological Department records Mild Winter (16 January – 15 February) sometimes falling below zero, with −4°C recorded on 20 January 1964. A deciduous species experiences a real cold period here, unlike an evergreen.
Fruit splitting is the classic irrigation-consistency failure in this species group, and it is a water problem rather than a nutrient one. Reaching for calcium on a calcareous soil is rarely the answer.

Container versus open ground
Pomegranate is often container-grown here. A container is a small freely-draining volume where leaching and salt accumulation both run faster than in the ground. Label rates govern, and consistency of watering matters more than quantity of feed — particularly during fruit development, where swings cause splitting.
