Slow-release versus water-soluble fertilisers

Two facts pull in the same direction here. FAO lists low nutrient storage capacity in sandy soils among the problems of arid soils, and low CEC means a soluble nutrient that is not taken up promptly is carried past the root zone by the next irrigation rather than banked.
